Terms of Service

Last updated September 11, 2026

The short version: Become is a small, free app for families. What you write in it belongs to you. Be decent to the people in your family. It is offered as-is, without a guarantee that it will always be available, and you can leave and take your data with you whenever you want.

These terms cover your use of Become, at becoming.family and as an installed app. Using Become means you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

Who can use Become

  • You must be at least 13 years old to create your own account. If you are under 18, you need permission from a parent or guardian.
  • Children younger than that do not get accounts. A parent or guardian creates a profile for them inside the family and manages it on their behalf, as described in the Privacy Policy.
  • If you create a child's profile, you are confirming that you are that child's parent or guardian and that you agree to these terms on their behalf.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account, including keeping your password to yourself. Tell us if you think someone else has access to it.

Your family's account

A family is created by one person, who becomes its admin and can invite others with a join code. Admins can change roles, manage family settings, create and manage child profiles, and revoke the join code.

Anyone holding a valid join code can join your family and will then see the information your family shares with each other. Share the code carefully, and revoke it in Settings once everyone is in.

What you write stays yours

Your goals, your check-ins, and your reflections belong to you. Become claims no ownership of them and takes no license to use them beyond what is needed to store them and show them to your own family, which is the entire purpose of the app. They are not used for advertising, not used to train machine learning models, and not sold or shared with anyone.

You are responsible for what you write. Please do not put anything in a goal or a reflection that you would not want stored, particularly in a child's profile.

Using it decently

Become is a tool for families to encourage each other, and it is built deliberately without streaks, scores, or any way to rank people against one another. In that spirit, please do not:

  • Use it to harass, demean, pressure, or shame anyone, including members of your own family.
  • Join a family you have not been invited to, or use a join code you were not given.
  • Try to reach another family's data, work around the app's access rules, or probe the service for weaknesses without permission.
  • Break the service on purpose, whether by automated traffic or otherwise.
  • Use it for anything unlawful.

If someone is using Become to make a family member feel worse rather than better, that is the opposite of what it is for, and an account may be suspended or removed over it.

Leaving, and deletion

You can delete your account yourself at any time from Settings. If you are the last adult in your family, deleting your account also deletes the family and every profile in it. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Before you go, you can ask for a copy of your data at the address below.

We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms, or if continuing to run the service becomes impractical. If Become is ever shut down, we will give reasonable notice and a way to get your data out first.

What is not promised

Become is provided free of charge, as-is, and without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. In particular, there is no promise that it will always be available, that it will be free of errors, that notifications will always arrive on time or at all, or that your data can never be lost. It is a small project rather than an enterprise service, and you should not rely on it as the only record of anything that matters to you.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Become and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data or lost profits, arising from your use of the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid to use Become, which is zero.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusions above, so parts of them may not apply to you.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change as the app changes. The date at the top will be updated, and anything significant will be brought to your attention in the app rather than left for you to find. Continuing to use Become after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the courts located there.
